Damon Kane

Topton Loop (Fall 2008)

Damon Kane is pleased to introduce this new run.  It will start near Harleysville PA, then continue northwest to Topton, head east to Macungie, then head back southwest to dine near our starting point.  This run was designed to "run against the grain", that is we are traveling across the prevailing ridges of the rolling and beautiful topography of  Bucks and Berks County's where they meet.  The run is a nice balance between twisty roads and scenic driving.  High points of the drive include a beautiful cruise along and across the Green Lane Reservoir, rolling over the hills and valleys, through Bally on our way to Topton.  We enjoy some stately architecture as we loop around the grand entry of the Lutheran Home in Topton.  We will stop briefly for a break just north of Macungie before we head southeast.  In striking contrast to the rural and small town nature of our run, we get a good view of the western Lehigh Valley carpeted with housing.  We cross the ridges again, and then work our way around the southwest side of Quakertown so we can enjoy our favorite road along the Unami Creek.  Across the ridges heading up and back we get glimpses of the valleys below.  Lunch will be at the Whiskey River Grille near Harleysville.

We will meet at the Harleysville Wal-Mart just west of town at the intersections of Pennsylvania Routes 63 and 113 at 9:30 for a 10:00 departure.  CB's will be useful so if you have one, please bring it along.  No rain date.
